WWII Atomic Bomb

Should the United States have dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

This is a hard question to answer, as Americans we justify bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki by saying we did it to more quickly end the war. We also say we bombed Japan to say our own soldiers life’s. But we always fail to mention that those bombs killed 129,000+ people including Japanese  civilians. We traded their life’s for our own soldiers life’s. I’m sure there was another more effectively way to end the war, if only Japan would have surrendered.

By bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki we did help end the war and save many of our soldiers life’s. So I guess we have to take the good with the bad. The people of Japan are know for not giving up. They live by the saying “Death before dishonor”, and because of this America was scared that they would not stop fighting. We believed that the only answer was to bomb Japan. America warned Japan if they did not surrender that we would bomb them and Japan refused to surrender. If only Japan had surrendered America wouldn’t have been forced to bomb them killing 129.000+ of their people.

Bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki had many consequence, good and bad. At the end American did bomb Japan, ending the war, and killing thousands of people. I believe that American had the right to bomb Japan, they warned they and Japan knew what was coming by not surrendering.

Should the U.S. have joined the League of Nations?

Should they have? No I don’t think it would have been a good idea for the U.S. to have joined the League of Nations at the time. The U.S. was still a little traumatised but WWI and didn’t want to get pulled into another world war. I think the U.S. did the right thing when they did not join they needed to take care of there own country.  During this period they were going through the Great Depression and were having lots of their our problems. If they would have joined the league they would have fought in WWII faster but they were to busy taking care of themselves and that’s okay because in the end they did join the war.

Should the United States have ratified and signed the Treaty of Versailles?

No I don’t believe the United States should have ratified and signed the Treaty of Versaille. The Treaty of Versaille did not include most of what President Wilson points. President Wilson just want to make points that would prevent another war but instead all the treaty did was punish Germany for a war they didn’t even start. The Treaty of Versaille was a totally fail and was a stepping stool for WWII. By signing it all we got was the league of nations which we didn’t even join it was pointless for America. All it did was bring another war which was exactly was we didn’t want to happen.

Should the U.S have been involved in WWI?

I believe the United States should have been involved World War I even though it was one of the bloodiest wars they had ever fought in. There was many things that led to the U.S. getting involved in the war. Like the Zimmerman Note, unrestricted submarine warfare, and the sinking of the Lusitania. All these things were pushing the U.S. to fight in the war.

When Germany wasn’t keeping it’s promise to stop unrestricted submarine warfare and therefore  sank the Lusitania. They killed many innocent Americans that had nothing to do with the war Germany was fighting. The U.S. had to defend itself they couldn’t just let this slip by. All they wanted was to stay out of the war and Germ had forced them to fight when they crossed the line. To top it all off they sent a telegram to Mexico saying if Mexico would help Germany out they would help them get back all the land they lost to the U.S.

We had many people volunteering to join the military at the time because the people were excited to be fighting in the war. There was also a lot of propaganda during the war showing the German as huns and barbarians. This propaganda lead to the restriction of German Americans. They weren’t allowed to listen to german music or fly their flag. They even stop teaching german in school and changed the names of german foods.

After the war all the five nations got together to make a peace treaty. This treaty was called the Treaty of Versailles. The treaty stated that Germany was to lose 27,000 square miles of land, Germany had to accept the Blame for starting the war, had to pay Reparations for the damage done during the war, and was forbidden to have submarines or an air force.

The fact that there was unrestricted submarine warfare, the Zimmerman Note sent to Mexico, and the sinking of the Lusitania pushing the U.S. to fight is enough for me to say they should have gotten involved. I believe the U.S. was needed to help Russia win the war and that’s exactly what they did. They had the right to join the war so they could defend their own ships and help win the war.
